On the 4th Day of Christmas ....

One way I'm working to quiet my spirit this December is to take the opportunity after the kids are out the door to enjoy a few moments of quiet. For some reason, this takes a lot of intentional discipline to sit even for 5-10 minutes.

Like you, I have a to-do list a mile long and I'm a do-er so I find great satisfaction in do-ing. I would much rather dive into my day than halt the train and sit unproductively. With that said, once I sit, it's like a breath of fresh air. The moment almost always includes my daily coffee, sometimes I light a candle, sometimes I read a devotional and sometimes I just sit giving my brain space to rest. I might say a prayer of gratitude, I might not. It's just a few minutes of centering my heart and getting in touch with my day. It doesn't take long and it's always always the best use of just a few moments. Yesterday, I decided to use The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp as a guide. I've owned it for 5 years and never cracked it .... and I'm starting on Day 3. Oops.  Better late than never. Giving myself Grace.
