Thoughts & Musings

Day 37: 100 Days

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. - Viktor Fankl

Viktor Frankl wrote an amazing book, Man's Search for Meaning. I've read it twice. Not an easy read, but fascinating. Viktor Frankl was a Jewish prisoner in the concentration camps. He was a psychiatrist, neurologist, and psychotherapist. I won't spoil the book but his teaching is based on his discovering in the camps that those most likely to survive were the ones who found meaning in their suffering. They could identify a sense of purpose to their life.  Frankl's purpose in the camps was to help others find meaning in their lives.

Powerful stuff. No one can take your attitude. No one can take your power of choice. No one.
